Have you ever heard of this stuff called astaxanthin?

It’s a really, really potent nutrient that research has shown to help accelerate fat loss.

My partners over at Prograde have a really cool article about the stuff. Check it out at:

I also wanted to share with you that Prograde’s new and improved EFA Icon contains 150mg of astaxanthin.

Yeah, it’s serious stuff. You’ll know exactly what I mean after you read the article. It’s research you really need to know about.

Lucky for you – and me – Prograde is celebrating their new formula by putting EFA Icon on sale at 20% off!

10 Hot Tips to Help You Stay on Track

May 14th, 2010

10 HOT TIPS
Hey with the weather warming up, it won’t be long before you are strutting yourself along at the pool, lake or beach. So here are a few hot tips to help you stay on track.

1. Don’t keep your “fat” clothes around. If you have lost some weight recently, get rid of those old clothes. Don’t give yourself an “escape path”. If you keep that larger size pair of pants in your closet, get them out right now and take them to your favorite charity or simply just throw them away. If you don’t have those large size pants to fall back into, you might just keep working to stay where you are. Wouldn’t you rather have to buy new clothes because the one that you wear now are too big than the other way around?

2. Limit the amount of meat you eat that comes from an animal which walks on four legs to just once per week. The best nutrition plans provide different foods from different sources and are different colors. This includes proteins.

3. Now I know everyone has a different philosophy about when we should stop our eating for the day. Some experts say 6 some say 7, which is right? Since every person I know goes to sleep at different times, its best to give yourself at least 2 hours to process and digest your food before going to bed. So if you go to bed around 9:30pm then you should probably stop eating after 7:30pm.

4. I am always telling my faithful clients to eat often in order to keep their metabolism firing. You should never go more than 3 hours without eating something. Although this serves our fitness goals in more ways than one, I want you to focus on feeling full or satisfied. When you eat often, you are less likely to over indulge at the next meal because you were starving.

5. How many of you steal food from others? Now I don’t mean stalking your neighbor’s house and stealing her fresh baked apple pie from her windowsill. I mean picking food off their plate or grabbing a couple chips out of their bag. STOP doing that! You need to start limiting your foolish decisions and needless eating. All those extra calories add up and those pounds are sure to follow. Grazers eat about an extra 1000 calories.

6. Now if you can adhere to tip #5, that could easily account for a couple hundred calories. Good job. So don’t blow it by eating large portions at your next meal. Let your dinner plate be your guide. Do not pile food onto your plate that is higher than about an inch and try to keep your food to within 2 inches from the edge. Combine this with frequent meals and you should find that it leaves you feeling pretty satisfied.

7. It takes your body a little bit of time to realize that it is being fed and does not always know that its full until its too late and you’ve eaten more than you should have. We all know how that feels. Take your time when eating. Try to chew your food more than 20 times per bite. This simple trick will help you keep your calorie intake in check.

8. If you work in an office or at a job that has vending machines, do not carry small bills or keep change around. People are less likely to seek out change for large bills. Besides we all know their are no healthy foods to be found next to a Snickers bar.

9. When you’re out and about with friends and family, its quite easy to eat without really thinking about it. Again, here is another dangerous position to be in because those calories add up fast too. Now when you find yourself standing around or sitting in a car, try not to eat. Yes I know, you’re only gonna eat a few pretzels but before you know it, the only thing left in the bag is the salt!

10. Hit the weights. Especially you ladies. If you want to lose weight, and I mean fast, then you have to include some resistance training into your program. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns every 24 hours. It has been estimated that each pound of muscle burns about 50 calories a day. Now if you are using a extremely low calorie “diet”, and the pounds just seem to be melting off, you are more likely than not, losing muscle. If you lose just 10 pounds of muscle, you lose the ability to burn about 500 calories a day (50 calories a day times 10= 500cals). Okay, so if this number doesn’t mean anything to you, let me explains what it means to a fitness expert like myself: over the course of a week you lose the ability to burn 3500 calories which means 3500 calories that you had eaten are now being stored as fat adn if you don’t know it already….3500 calories equals 1 pound!! Can you see why extreme dieting leads to the yo-yo effect and those results aren’t long term?

Hope these tips help YOU stay on track.

Stay committed and determined to change the way you look, feel and move.

Make it a great day.

Rob

Success and Failure

May 9th, 2010

Success and failure shadow us wherever we go. Where there is one, the other is sure to follow. How can one appreciate success in the absence of defeat? You cannot. Whether you fail or someone else fails, the experience becomes a lesson in success because now you know what doesn’t work. Have you ever heard the expression that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Take a moment to reflect on that………..Does that remind you of anyone?

If you’ve been beating yourself up because you “exercise everyday” and you still aren’t seeing the results you were looking for, let me help you break from the insanity. I’m revamping my 6 Week Fitness Success Program to help anyone reach ALL their fitness goals in the fastest time possible. So if you are just like my clients; determined and committed to change the way you look, move and feel, just email me at robviramontes@train2change.com and I will add you to the 6 Week Fitness Success Program priority list. If you have failed to lose those inches and drop those pounds, success is sure to follow.

Backward Fitness

May 4th, 2010

As you can imagine, I hear a ton of excuses from people on why they don’t exercise.

Sometimes the reason is self inflicted: I don’t have the time.
Other times the reason is procrastination: I’m going to start as soon as tax season ends.

And occasionally the reason can be downright funny: The dog ate my gym shorts.

I usually remind these individuals that despite their reason, exercise is a very important activity that will dramatically improve their life. I bring up the health benefits and describe how many of their physical ailments would improve. I talk about how great they will feel dropping excess weight and rediscovering a slender figure.

However, there was always an excuse that would get me.

The devious excuse of ‘being active’: Oh, I don’t need to exercise in a gym – I’m very active. I play tennis and hike in the summer and I ski in the winter.

Well, they have a point, right? Tennis, hiking and skiing are all active sports that burn calories. Maybe they can be fit without doing any other exercise, especially if they are at a reasonable weight.

Then I started to notice a trend.

The ‘active’ people couldn’t touch their toes in a simple flexibility test. The ‘tennis players’ couldn’t jump rope for 60 seconds. The ‘hikers’ needed a week to recover from a one mile jog. The ’skiers’ encountered injury after injury. And then it hit me.

You don’t become fit by simply being active. That’s backward fitness.

Only by being fit can you become more active. There’s a poster in my gym that reads: “Working out allows you to do the things you like to do- better.”

To become and maintain a level of fitness there is no replacement for a consistent exercise program. It’s the only way.

True fitness is when your body can do whatever you ask of it. This means having flexibility, strength and endurance.

Do you exercise? Or are you fooling yourself with the excuse of ‘being active’?

How happy are you with your level of fitness? Are you able to meet all of the functional demands of life? Or do you find yourself opting out of experiences or situations that you know would be too challenging?

If you’ve used the excuse of ‘being active’ in the past, it’s time to reconsider your options. Don’t practice backward fitness with the hope of true results.

Contact me to get started on a program that will make you truly fit. And if you’re furthest from active and simply want to lose those extra inches and pounds, make the decision to take action today.

After all, there’s no trial run in the game of life.

The most important aspect in becoming and staying fit is to be persistent. You can exercise every day for a week, but if you follow that week with a month of no exercise then you’ve lost all ground. Besides do you brush your teeth for a week and then say “Okay I brushed my teeth for a week” and stop? Find an exercise program that you are able to consistently do and then stick with it. In the words of Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

#1 Way to Boost Your Metabolism

March 1st, 2010

You are probably thinking there is some magic pill out there that will bring a raging fire to your metabolism, but you would be wrong. You probably think there is something I am trying to sell you at the end of this, but you would be wrong. I just want you to know that in my opinion as a fitness expert the number one way to boost your metabolism is to keep it working.

Eating small frequent meals throughout the day is the easiest way to accomplish this. After swallowing food, your metabolism is kicked into gear as your body begins to burn calories to digest the food you have just eaten. Once this is accomplished, the body begins to slow down and the calorie burning process also slows down. Eating frequently throughout the day keeps the calorie burning process in effect which keeps your metabolism working at a higher and more desirable rate.

Let’s look at what happens when you do not eat often. When your body has nothing to digest, it begins to slow down in order to conserve calories. You have now entered what we call “starvation mode”.

In starvation mode your body will actually make you fatter! It actually begins to pull protein and carbohydrates from muscle while storing fat to provide the necessary energy sources. As your body depletes its lean body mass, your body begins to lose some of its metabolic power. For every pound of muscle lost, you body burns about 50 calories less a day. Which means your body will add about 1 pound of fat to your frame every 2 and a half months just because you are not eating often. Now imagine if you are one of those people who thought starving yourself was the only way to lose weight.

Don’t guess your way to fitness. Keep checking in for more fitness tips. If you have any questions, please enter them in the comment section below.

A Special Valentine’s Day Reminder

February 12th, 2010

Well, the weekend is just about here – and so is Valentine’s Day. Hopefully, your significant other is going to get you some nice flowers or a card and NOT a big ole box of chocolates.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem overeating either of the first two!

Ok, so bad jokes aside, just because it’s a holiday filled with love and romance doesn’t mean you necessarily get to go crazy. Well, not with your nutrition plan, anyway ;-)

If you get some Valentine’s day chocolates…or you go out to a nice dinner and that dessert cart rolls around with your favorites…just remember your GOALS. You do have goals, right?

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend, but before I let you go I had to remind you that TODAY is the last day of Prograde Nutrition’s 14% off Prograde Lean sale. Yes, Lean is their amazing chocolate meal replacement shake.

And I’ve partnered with Prograde for a reason: their products kick butt!

1 Mega Tip to Fight the Abdominal Phat

February 10th, 2010

There’s a reason I’m always telling you to eat small, nutritious meals frequently.

And there’s a reason why I harp on starting that trend each day with a solid breakfast.

No, I’m not talking about hitting a fast food joint for a Bacon, Egg and Cheese biscuit packed with a zillion calories.

Look, I know many of you just can’t stand eating breakfast. And I know many of you just don’t have time. But I’ve just gotta get it into your head – and so do you.

If you want to blast away that abdominal flab you MUST eat breakfast.

Now, please don’t take that to mean I want you to just grab a bagel with cream cheese. Or a doughnut…or a pop tart….or a danish.

I want you – and trust me, you do too – to get some solid nutrition. Especially some protein.

Perhaps you can imagine this:

You wake up with a smile on your face. You’ve been exercising regularly and it really has picked up your metabolism, so you’re hungry in the morning. (Which is a GOOD thing.)

You enter the kitchen a little bit groggy, but very much looking forward to what’s about to happen next.

You take out your canister of Prograde Lean and within moments you’re drinking a delicious chocolate shake. One that fuels your body and sets the tone for your metabolism all day long with 35 grams of protein.

MMMMM…it’s good. And you love the fact it also provides 8 grams of fiber so it keeps you feeling full until your next small, nutritious meal.

“Life is good”, you think to yourself.

Just imagine: Breakfast made easy AND delicious.

Lucky for you my partners over at Prograde Nutrition are celebrating Valentine’s Day early this year and have put their out-of-this-world delicious chocolate Prograde Lean Meal Replacement shake on sale this week at 14% off!
